We do our best to establish our travel itinerary early, but there can be circumstances beyond our control that force us to make changes. Here is our updated proposed itinerary for the 2009 trip.  Please realize that all of the items listed are not guaranteed as circumstances often change at the last minute.  ALL MEALS are included EVERY DAY.

 

Shown below in blue is the link where you can find background information on the sites that you will visit.  We suggest that you check them out to have an idea of where you will be going and what you will encounter on your travels during the 14 days.

(You should be in good physical health and be capable of walking up to 4 or 5 miles in a day - or more.)

Day 1 - students arrive in Phoenix, Arizona and are assigned to teams; orientation and get acquainted activities; Hampton Inn Airport North

 

Day 2 - today's travels will take you to Flagstaff, Arizona with a stop at Slide Rock State Park for some water fun at the 80 foot natural water slide; http://azstateparks.com/Parks/SLRO/index.html ; dinner tonight will be a Black Bart's where you'll be entertained while you chow down on steak; Ramada Inn West
 

Day 3 - the spectacular Grand Canyon IMAX theater  http://www.grandcanyonimaxtheater.com/ will give you a preview of what you're going to see; after lunch with the Rotary Club of Grand Canyon, you'll have some leisure time to explore the canyon area http://www.nps.gov/grca/ before you travel back to Flagstaff for a well needed night's rest; Ramada Inn West


Day 4 - today, you'll travel to Las Vegas, Nevada and have some leisure time on the world famous Las Vegas Strip (sorry you can’t go in the casinos and/or gamble – you have to be 21) but there's LOTS to do outside the casinos http://www.vegas.com/attractions/freeattractions.html ; Wingate by Wyndahm

 

Day 5 - this will be a VERY FULL day as you'll travel to San Diego, California and spend the rest of the day at Sea World http://www.seaworld.com/sandiego/experiences/default.aspx, home of the world famous Shamu the whale and many exciting theme park attractions.  We're hoping there will be a special surprise fun evening event while at the park; California Suites

Day 6 - you'll take the San Diego Old Town Trolley Tour where you can explore the city at your pace http://www.trustedtours.com/store/Old-Town-Trolley-San-Diego-C182.aspx; travel to Garden Grove, CA (Los Angeles area); Homewood Suites

Day 7 - spend the day on the beach at Newport Beach http://www.visitnewportbeach.com/playing.asp and work on your West Coast tan; Homewood Suites
 
Day 8 - you'll wonder if you've become a star when you experience the world's largest movie studio at Universal Studios Hollywood http://themeparks.universalstudios.com/hollywood/website/index.html?__source=RGMN; dinner tonight is at a great Italian buffet; Homewood Suites

Day 9 - a visit to the Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust will begin the day http://www.lamuseumoftheholocaust.org/; wander through the famed  Farmer’s Market http://www.farmersmarketla.com where you’ll find a wide variety of international food vendors plus many other interesting sights and smells; everyone dreams of going to Hollywood http://hollywoodchamber.net/explore/index.asp ....and today you'll get to go before you travel north to Atascadero, CA; Best Western Colony Inn

Day 10 –  after a short drive to Morro Bay, you'll get to experience 'tandem' sea kayaking http://www.kayakhorizons.com/index.html; have lunch on the beach and maybe have a game of beach volleyball; another short drive will take you to one of the West Coast's largest natural habitat of elephant seals http://www.wildlifehotspots.com/sansimeon.html before heading to Templeton, CA for a fun barbeque in the evening that is hosted by several area Rotary clubs; Best Western Colony Inn

Day 11 - this morning you'll travel to one of the most majestic national parks in the U.S. - Yosemite http://www.nps.gov/yose/You'll want to have your camera ready to shoot as there are picture opportunities every where you turn.  You will have some free time to explore on the park's free shuttle before going to Oakhurst, CA for the night; Shilo Inn

Day 12 - after some more time in Yosemite National Park, you'll drive on to Oakland, California; what's more American that hot dogs and apple pie? A baseball game of course.  This evening you have seats behind home plate as the Oakland A's play the Colorado Rockies for the night - AND it's all you can eat hot dogs, peanuts, nachos, ice cream and sodas; Courtyard by Marriott

Day 13 - after a short drive back to San Francisco, you'll have a short tour of the city with a professional guide which will include a group photo taken at the Golden Gate Bridge http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_Gate_Bridge; you'll have some leisure time on Fisherman’s Wharf and Pier 39 http://pier39.com/; after an afternoon cruise of San Francisco Bay and past Alcatraz National Monument, you can spend some time seeing some of the sights of this hilly city such as riding the cable cars and Lombard Street, the world's crookedest street; visit China Town where the largest concentration of Chinese live outside of China http://www.sanfranciscochinatown.com/ ; tonight, you'll have dinner at an authentic Chinese restaurant in China Town before heading back to Oakland for the night; Courtyard by Marriott

Day 14 – today you’ll say good-by to your many new friends and fly from the Oakland airport back to the city where you are hosted

Breakfast is included in every hotel stay.  You will receive cash back to buy all meals that are not done as a group or included with the hotel stay.
